Stay trendy with a refresher on this year’s decorating trends. We picked out the seven biggest.
1. Layered neutrals
Bold is in. See if you can bring bright colors into your room — and definitely use more than one a time! High contrast is a great way to accentuate the effect: colors pop most on a dark background. Bring boldness in through furniture too with statement mirrors and large furniture.
4. Graphic patterns
We’ve been saying it for a while: wallpaper is back! Pick whatever funky (or simple) pattern you like and create an accent wall. Patterned fabric for curtains, rugs, upholstery, etc. is also in right now. Incorporate this with the previous two trends, and get yourself a bold print you love. Don’t fret if it doesn’t perfectly match your existing style.
5. Gallery wall
Tiling frames is a fun and visually appealing way to show off your art or favorite photos. Look at photos of gallery walls online if you need inspiration for how to arrange your frames. Mix big and small, portrait and landscape, and maybe even the frame material.
No one’s thrilled about the 80s style coming back, and we wish we could say something different for plaid. It’s been all over the runway this year, so stay trendy by incorporating it into pillows, curtains, or upholstery. But don’t make it too permanent — we think this trend will be more short-lived than the others.
7. Matte surfaces
The big thing last year was metallic pieces. While metallic decor is definitely still popular, 2016 brings matte surfaces to the table as well. Contrast shiny decor with matte, like soapstone countertops, unpolished tables, and chalkboards.
